Unlocking the Benefits of Autism Informed Coaching

Overview: This article describes the process of autism-informed coaching and how it is beneficial for autistic individuals and their families.

Autism Learning Lab (ALL) provides autism-informed coaching to autistic individuals and their families. Autism-informed coaching is the process wherein a professional with experience, education and training related to supporting autistic individuals and their families, works with an individual or family to discover strengths, struggles and goals in order to create a successful path forward. Why and how is autism-informed coaching with ALL the right choice for you and your family?  Read on…

Trained and Informed

The coaches at ALL are trained to provide evidence-based support for their clients with additional, specialized education related to the unique strengths and challenges of autistic people and their families. At ALL we know that autism is not a “problem” in the person but that the condition can present difficulties in our modern society. We approach each individual in a manner that incorporates the person’s neurodiversity and uniquity. We don’t just help manage difficulties with mood or executive functioning, but seek to understand and incorporate the person’s neurodiversity and uniqueness into the process to provide an informed and supportive coaching experience. ALL coaches understand that although autism does not necessarily “cause” the difficulty in a person’s life it must be considered when helping the person find comfort and success in a neurotypical society.

Communication

The coaches at ALL won’t just sit and ask an autistic individual how a personal interaction or relationship makes them “feel” or attempt to provide an explanation for a failing relationship that somehow blames that person. We understand the unique struggles that autistic individuals experience in personal relationships, and we also understand that the therapeutic industry has heretofore blamed those difficulties on the autistic individuals. Not at ALL. At ALL our goal is to create a solution, not assign blame. We believe in using clear and concise communication in the modality most comfortable for the client, whether it be talking, whispering, written word, song or even interpretive dance. Our goal is to communicate in a way that is helpful, no matter how unique.

Learning Modalities

Autism Learning Lab is a vault of informative and helpful content with articles, videos, podcasts, personal development tools, and more. The content provides clients an opportunity to explore ideas and tools on their own in a modality that fits for them. They can then bring these lessons to their session with their coach to review what they have learned, and identify and examine personal goals where they wish to learn more or improve skills. This multi-modal approach provides clients an opportunity to explore and learn in whatever manner is most comfortable for them.

Strengths and Empowerment

At ALL we believe that every individual has room to grow, albeit it some of us more than others. ALL coaches know that growth comes from embracing strengths and augmenting struggles, and that is the model we employ. Our coaches help clients to lean into their skills and challenge their difficulties. By empowering individuals to be their best selves our coaches strive to make the world a more tolerant and supportive place for everyone.

ALL understands that autism does not cause all of a specific person’s difficulties, but we also recognize that being autism-informed allows our coaches to take a uniquely supportive approach to the growth process. By reading this article you have already taken the first step to finding a better solution for yourself or a loved one.
